  • Short Bio / Excerpt:

Clarence T’ao is a highly accomplished financial industry executive and sustainable finance pioneer with over three decades of C-suite leadership in banking and capital markets across the Asia-Pacific region. Known for his extensive experience spanning loan syndications, structured finance, acquisition finance, and private banking, T'ao transitioned his institutional expertise to the fintech and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) sectors later in his career. He is widely recognized as the Co-Founder of GoImpact Capital Partners, an organization dedicated to driving sustainable finance and ESG education across Asia.

T’ao laid the academic foundation for his financial career in the United States, graduating from the University of North Texas with a combined Bachelor and Master of Business Administration (MBA/BBA) degree in Banking and Finance. In 1984, he entered the corporate banking sphere as a Vice President at Chase Manhattan Bank, where he divided his tenure between Toronto, Canada, and Hong Kong over an eight-year period. During this foundational chapter, he gained a comprehensive understanding of international capital markets and foundational corporate credit structures.

In December 1992, T’ao accelerated his rise in the investment banking sector by joining Citigroup as a Managing Director in Hong Kong. For nearly eight years, he stood at the forefront of capital market financing in the Asia-Pacific region, spearheading massive loan financing initiatives for infrastructure projects, sponsor-driven corporate acquisitions, real estate, and debt securitizations. His division established a formidable track record, capturing multiple prestigious industry accolades, including the regional "Loan House of the Year" and "Deal of the Year" awards.

Following his successful stint at Citigroup, T’ao transitioned to BNP Paribas, where he went on to build out and solidify the bank’s major loan syndication, structured finance, and acquisition finance franchises in APAC. His exceptional performance led to a major geographic deployment to Shanghai, where he served as the Chief Executive Officer of BNP Paribas (China) Limited between 2010 and 2014. In December 2014, he returned to Hong Kong to take on a newly created institutional role as the Head of Emerging Asian Markets for BNP Paribas Wealth Management, tailored to address the unique cross-border needs of evolving regional clients.

In November 2018, after a distinguished career in institutional investment banking, T’ao shifted his attention toward entrepreneurial interests and sustainable investment paradigms. Recognizing the critical demand for structured green investment frameworks, he co-founded GoImpact Capital Partners to catalyze sustainable finance adoption via education, training, and strategic advisory. Parallel to his impact work, T'ao acts as the founder of Immortelle Health and has served as a strategic advisor for the fintech firm PrivEx Group, continuing to bridge his rich capital markets history with next-generation corporate governance.
